Rent vs buy in Dover -what makes sense?

Hey, Crime rate is something to consider -Dover sits at 109.9 per 100K. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 3 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Downtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Old Town for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- The job market scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
