The good and bad of living in Dover

Alright, I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $1,004 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 13,094 people. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The cost of living is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 26, moved here 11 years ago from New York. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The school system situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a marketing manager and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The safety is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
