Downey is underrated, change my mind

Alright, We have two kids and Rent is about $1,892/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Worth the trade-offs? Thanks for reading. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I've lived in Westside for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- The school system scene is improving

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Nashville it's better than expected.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 24, moved here 15 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in East and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The weather situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
