Is it worth buying in Dranesville?

Curious what people think. Poverty rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $713,100, which is pretty steep. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots?

Used to live on the North side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in legal. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
