Life in Draper as a young professional

Median household income is $130,680, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $726,000, which is pretty steep. Homes are going for about $726,000 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Draper sits at 140.5 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Lack of diversity
- Poor road conditions
- Chain restaurants dominate
It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I've lived in Fairview for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The walkability scene is tough

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in The Heights. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely average and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much manageable but now it's decent.
