Housing in Drexel Heights compared to San Francisco

Curious what people think. I'm a remote worker and It's a a smaller city city with about 27,636 people. The median home value here is around $233,300, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? Appreciate any input. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The traffic is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 10 years. Moved from Tampa for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Urban sprawl is real. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.
