Rent vs buy in Drexel Hill -what makes sense?

Hey everyone, Rent is about $1,312/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,312 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Does this match your experience? Thanks in advance! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much stable but now it's pretty good.
