Hi all, My partner and I are Rent is about $3,174/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 70,542 people. You can expect to pay around $3,174 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
Pros:
- Good job market
- Growing food scene
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Houston about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in The Heights for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- The pet-friendliness scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from LA about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 38, moved here 8 years ago from New York. I've lived in Springfield and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The healthcare situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
