Best companies to work for in Dubuque?

First post here. I work in education and The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Bought a house here in 2022 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to San Diego it's pretty good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 55, moved here 5 years ago from LA. I've lived in Riverside and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
