Raising a family in Dubuque -thoughts?

Been meaning to ask this. Crime rate is something to consider -Dubuque sits at 189.7 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 59,271 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is decent in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 15 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
