Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 6.9%, which is pretty low. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Am I wrong here?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from New York about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much established but now it's excellent.
