Working remotely from Duluth

I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (East) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Midtown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The school system scene is decent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Pine Hills area are decent. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Chicago about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 1 years. Moved from Houston for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Homeless population growing downtown. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
