Best apartments in Duluth under ?

I'm retired and It's a a smaller city city with about 86,863 people. Average temperature is around 43--F, so bundle up in winter. Rent is about $1,037/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Not enough green space
What would you do? Thanks for reading. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 27, moved here 5 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The walkability situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for family and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The walkability is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
