How safe is Duluth really?

I've been looking at the stats and Duluth shows relatively low crime stats. But stats don't always tell the full story. For people who actually live there — do you feel safe? Are there areas to avoid?

I'm especially interested in hearing from retirees.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 4 years and my experience is very similar.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is the west side tends to be more affordable. Makes a big difference.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Old Town. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.
