Moving from Austin to Dundee next month

Hey everyone, I've been here for 7 years and Homes are going for about $482,300 on average. With a population of 3,215, Dundee is a small town. Median household income is $100,208, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,545/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Let me know your thoughts. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Dallas about 3 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2018 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
