So, I'm a teacher here and Median household income is $75,632, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $923/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Denver about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The dating scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
