Hello, Household incomes average around $79,545 in Durango. With a population of 19,257, Durango is a small town. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What are your go-to spots? The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 10 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in East for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions
- The housing market scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Fairview) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Denver about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..
