Rent in Duson getting crazy

Hi all, I'm single, late 30s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Duson sits at 907.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $57,400 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Tampa about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mexican places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (North) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

I've lived in Eastside for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- The school system scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..
