Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great sushi places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Nashville about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
