Most overrated things about East Bakersfield

I'm a teacher here and Rent is about $1,005/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,005 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 10,377 people. Poverty rate is 35.6%, which is higher than I expected. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.
