Is East Basin getting better or worse?

Household incomes average around $187,361 in East Basin. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Does this match your experience? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 4 years. Moved from Charlotte for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Dating scene is rough. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much reasonable but now it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The community vibe scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Hope this helps!.
