Couple moving to East Brewton from out of state

Hey folks, Poverty rate is 28.5%, which is higher than I expected. You can expect to pay around $753 for rent here. Household incomes average around $43,070 in East Brewton. Homes are going for about $87,300 on average. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Used to live on the West side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
