Honest thoughts on life in East Dundee

Hi all, Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $260,000, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -East Dundee sits at 61.8 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 11 years. Moved from New York for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is solid - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Not very walkable outside downtown. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

I've lived in Westside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The dating scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Raleigh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Hope this helps!.
