Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 12 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Atlanta about 1 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
