OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 52, moved here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Sunset and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The pet-friendliness scene is solid
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Pros I've experienced:

- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
