Thinking about relocating to East Gull Lake from Portland

Not sure if this has been asked before, but With a population of 1,173, East Gull Lake is a small town. Poverty rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Should I be concerned?

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in East area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Sunset for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The housing market scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 4 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Road conditions need improvement. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Raleigh it's better than expected.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Raleigh about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
