Longtime lurker here, My partner and I are Rent is about $1,184/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $66,943 in East Hartford. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 12 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
