Hello, We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $1,454 for rent here. The median home value here is around $274,900, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -East Haven sits at 125.7 per 100K. Poverty rate is 6.5%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What do you all think? Appreciate any input. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Minneapolis it's surprisingly good.

Moved here from Miami about 3 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to housing market but Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I'm a writer and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

I've lived in The Heights for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- The outdoor recreation scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a teacher, 35, moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Old Town and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The cost of living situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
