Cost of living reality check -East Hemet

My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -East Hemet sits at 521.8 per 100K. Household incomes average around $80,621 in East Hemet. Homes are going for about $370,300 on average. The median home value here is around $370,300, which seems about average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Limited cultural events
There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 57, moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in South and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Close to major attractions
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Bugs and humidity in summer
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
