Unpopular opinion about East Honolulu

Random thought, Born and raised here. Homes are going for about $1,172,300 on average. The median home value here is around $1,172,300, which is pretty steep. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The community vibe is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Highland for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The food scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for retirement and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The cultural scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
