Alright, My partner and I are Rent is about $647/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What are your go-to spots? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

I work in finance here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is better than expected. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Vietnamese places. it exceeded my expectations.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Eastside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2021 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
