Hi all, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 7.5%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much developing but now it's surprisingly good.

I've lived in Westside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The outdoor recreation scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Eastside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
