Things East Lansing needs to improve

Hey, I've been here for 4 years and Homes are going for about $251,600 on average. Median household income is $43,547, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

I've lived in Eastside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good airport with direct flights
- The housing market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.
