Hey, Just moved here 15 months ago and It's a a smaller city city with about 35,806 people. Median household income is $128,770, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $613,900 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Is this normal for East Meadow? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in South for 9 years. Moved from Phoenix for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And cost of living can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Dallas about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- The school system scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in tech here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is average. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.
