Curious what people think. My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $199,900, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 14,280, East Milton is a small town. Poverty rate is 6.5%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 51, moved here 10 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Uptown and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Affordable housing options
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Property taxes are high
3. The safety situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
