Random thought, You can expect to pay around $1,219 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -East Niles sits at 209.2 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great farm-to-table places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Austin it's excellent.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.
