Relocating to East Niles, CA -pros and cons?

I'm retired and Rent is about $1,219/month for a decent place. With a population of 28,586, East Niles is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $228,100, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Does this match your experience? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 35, moved here 12 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Westside and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited shopping options
3. The community vibe situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
