Best kept secrets of East Orange, NJ

Curious what people think. Just moved here 1 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -East Orange sits at 428.4 per 100K. The median home value here is around $315,500, which seems about average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks in advance! Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Springfield area are tough. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, No regrets on my end..
