Cost of living reality check -East Orange

Anyone else feel this way? Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $315,500, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $59,872 in East Orange. With a population of 69,183, East Orange is a smaller city. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited nightlife
- Homelessness issues downtown
Anyone in a similar situation? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
