Moving to East Patchogue with kids -good idea?

First post here. I'm a remote worker and The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Miami it's decent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 4 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in The Heights area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much reasonable but now it's improving.
