Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $111,736, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $415,200, which is pretty steep. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do?

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (West) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in West area are tough. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Fairview for 2 years. Moved from Raleigh for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Miami it's hit or miss.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
