The good and bad of living in East Port Orchard

Longtime lurker here, Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thanks in advance! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Denver about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The walkability is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Chicago it's underrated.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
