Pros and cons of East Providence after 4 years

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 46,970, East Providence is a smaller city. Median household income is $79,660, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $322,100 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Limited nightlife
- Chain restaurants dominate
Thanks for reading. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great farm-to-table places. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 47, moved here 14 years ago from Miami. I've lived in North and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The healthcare situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much affordable but now it's pretty good.
