Why I chose East Providence over bigger cities

OK so Household incomes average around $79,660 in East Providence. You can expect to pay around $1,262 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Looking forward to hearing from you all. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Seattle it's surprisingly good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 1 years. Moved from Dallas for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Chain restaurants dominate. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 45, moved here 10 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Downtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

I've been in Old Town for 3 years. Moved from Minneapolis for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Urban sprawl is real. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been in Sunset for 13 years. Moved from Charlotte for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is tough - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 9 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
