Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and Poverty rate is 8.3%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $955,000, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -East San Gabriel sits at 124.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $955,000 on average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. What would you do? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Uptown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- The food scene scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Phoenix about 5 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The weather scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..
