Anyone else feel this way? I've been here for 6 years and The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The healthcare is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
