Working remotely from East Setauket

My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a small town city with about 10,385 people. The median home value here is around $613,300, which is pretty steep. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thoughts? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Moved here from Dallas about 8 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to cost of living but No regrets on my end..
