Unpopular opinion about East Shoreham

Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -East Shoreham sits at 22.0 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance!

I've lived in Downtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The dating scene scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 52, moved here 8 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in West and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The community vibe situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
