Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 45, moved here 5 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Springfield and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The housing market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for singles. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from San Diego about 15 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
