Raising a family in Eastpointe -thoughts?
Hi all, I work in education and Am I overthinking this? Any help is appreciated.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The public transit scene is average
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 8 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in East area are average. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much manageable but now it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 7 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
